In this video, Dr. Kauffman and Dr. Neville talk about dental emergencies and what caregivers need to know about spotting signs of dental trouble.

As a caregiver, it can be hard to tell the difference between a dental issue and a true emergency. At Geriatric House Call Dentistry, we encourage you to contact us as soon as you notice something is wrong. If it’s an emergency, we will come to your home or send your loved one to the emergency room. For non-emergencies, we will set up an appointment time.

Signs Your Loved One Needs Emergency Dental Care

If your loved one has pain or swelling, we want to see them as soon as possible. Sometimes infection from a tooth can spread over night. If your loved one has swelling in the eyes or face, this could be a sign that they have a tooth infection. Infection in the teeth can spread very quickly to the brain or heart, so it’s important that you contact us immediately. Sometimes patients will contact us with issues that need immediate treatment but are not life-threatening. For example, if your loved one breaks their denture, we want to fix it quickly so they can eat, but it isn’t a dental emergency.

What Happens When You Contact Us for Emergency Care?

When you contact us, we are going to ask you a lot of questions. The more information we have, the better we can treat your loved one. We want to see pictures of the issue before we come out to your home. Depending on the situation, we will send you to the emergency room, make a house call, or schedule an appointment to see your family member.

What Areas Does Dr. Neville Serve?

Dr. Neville primarily serves patients in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Bucks County, Montgomery County, and Chester County. Because there are so few mobile dentists, she will also make house calls to patients in Lancaster and Allentown if they need her. She serves a very large area and provides care to an underserved population who desperately need dental services.
