Two Types of Dentures and What is a Denture Reline

Complete Denture

A full denture is a removable dental prosthetic that is used to replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Full dentures are held in place by suction and the natural gripping action of the fleshy tissues inside the mouth. The base of a full denture covers the entire palate (roof of the mouth) in the case of an upper denture, while a lower denture rests on the gum tissues below the tongue. A set of full dentures can be made from different materials, including porcelain, metal, or plastic. The type of material used will usually be based on aesthetic considerations, as well as strength and durability. In some cases, a full denture may also be fitted with special attachments that help to keep it in place.

Partial Denture

When it comes to dental prosthetics, there are many options available to patients. One option is a partial denture, which is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Unlike a full denture, which covers the entire top or bottom row of teeth, a partial denture consists of artificial teeth that are attached to a metal framework. This framework is then secured in place with clasps that fit around existing teeth. Partial dentures are usually made of porcelain or plastic, and they can be customized to match the patient’s natural teeth. In addition to aesthetics, partial dentures also provide functional benefits, such as allowing patients to chew and speak properly. With proper care, partial dentures can last for many years.

The common reason for a denture reline

One common reason for needing a geriatric denture reline is due to weight loss. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as illness or simply getting older. When a person loses weight, their skin often becomes loose and hangs down more than it used to. This can unfortunately also happen inside the mouth, causing the tissues to move around more and eventually start to wear away at the dentures. Over time, this can cause the fit of the dentures to become poor, making them uncomfortable to wear and increasing the risk of them falling out. A reline can help to address this issue by readjusting the fit of the dentures so that they are once again comfortable and secure. If you have lost weight and are finding that your dentures are no longer fitting well, then a geriatric denture reline may be right for you.
